This is a really bad day in America. Make no mistake, Trump’s troop ploy has nothing to do with immigration enforcement or keeping the peace. It’s an authoritarian show of force, illegally circumventing the California Governor’s authority as Commander in Chief of the California National Guard, to bolster Trump’s ego and agenda.
There is no rebellion or invasion warranting Trump’s usurping the Governor’s authority. I just heard news that the Administration is also deploying a Marine battalion of 500 to augment the federalized force. Trump is calling in active duty military troops against Americans. The only real purpose of the Administration’s actions is to inflame the situation, incite violence for Fox News clips and MAGA followers, and create a pretext for the invocation of Trump’s police state.
Reportedly, Trump has welcomed arresting Gavin Newsom who has filed a lawsuit against the administration over federalizing the national Guard illegally. Neither the border Czar, nor Trump has the power to arrest the California Governor. But, that hasn’t stopped Trump from insane shit before and it may not stop him now.
This is another step in the Dictator’s playbook. Incite violence, call out the military, inflame the situation, declare martial law, suspend habeus corpus, shut down opposition… a classic authoritarian pretext for suppression and oppression. Trump and Hegseth are, no doubt, prepared to play the same cards all over the country.
At the same time as we see the images of armed, masked military shooting tear gas and rubber bullets in LA, here on the East Coast, the trains are rolling in carrying thousands of tanks into DC for Trump’s birthday parade. If a birthday parade is good enough for Vlad and Xi, Copycat Don needs his own…at taxpayer expense.
I’m about to embark on a long-standing overseas trip. I’m sorry I won’t be in the US on June 14. I urge my readers to take to the streets. Hopefully there will be a mass outpouring of resistance against The fascist in Chief and his corrupt, lawless power grab.
